Improving the Economical and Technical Competence of Pepper Farmer in Bangka (2017-2020)
This project aims at enabling pepper farmers on Bangka Island to produce in line with EU and Japanese food safety standards. As both markets belong to the strictest ones in this regard, the project will focusses on increasing the skills of smallholder farmers to produce good quality pepper and to adapt to requirements of the market. This project will targets total of 1000 smallholder farmers in selected areas of Bangka Island, Sumatra, Indonesia.
The project focusses on increasing the skills of smallholder pepper farmers, establishing market linkages and enabling farmers to comply with European and Japanese food safety standards with the help of climate smart farming. Through extensive trainings in GAP and GHP, the project actively fights against the increasing usage of pesticides that has been experienced in comparable countries like Vietnam over the last years. By doing this, it contributes to increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian agriculture.
